From the dopes to the dope to the doooope, The Chicago Dope, founded in July 2010, satirizes, criticizes, mocks, lampoons, and lambasts the newsmakers, pop culture phenomena and peculiar cultural institutions that dominate our traditional news sources, with a focus on America’s Second City. This site was also formed to celebrate the many venues and various ways in which Chicago comedians are giving a local voice to satire, farce and funnies. They make a mockery of things, and for this we salute them.
The Chicago Dope was formed by eight Founding Authors with experience in local and national print, stand-up and sketch comedy. The site presents readers with a diverse array of comedic content, starting with its flagship online satirical newspaper. While not “true” (per se), we hope that the stories we break help keep the “real news” in perspective.
Over the coming months we will also unveil other features of our site, including pages dedicated to humorous non-fiction essays and coverage of Chicago’s rich local comedy scene. During that time, expect to see greater diversity in the manner in which we deliver our content, venturing into more graphical, visual, and video content as the site grows.
