Though everybody already knew and nobody particularly cared, CBS kind of made headlines Wednesday with its announcement that Katie Couric is leaving her post as the network’s Evening News anchor at year’s end. The news comes after months of widespread, half-hearted gossip, leaving the public midly informed and generally indifferent.

Valerie Pumbleroy, founder of Behind The Desk, a prominent news anchor celebrity gossip blog, says that Couric’s tabloid appeal has simply diminished drastically since her much discussed move from NBC’s Today show to CBS five years ago.
“The fact is, as a news celebrity, Katie’s star power just isn’t what it used to be,” Pumbleroy explained . “Back then, if she sneezed funny, our readers wanted to know about it. But when they saw yesterday’s announcement that she’s leaving CBS, they thought to themselves, ‘Oh, Katie Couric? I forgot about her. Gosh, I loved her on the Today show. She was great. But not as great as Meredith. Wait, Meredith isn’t really leaving Today, is she? Someone told me she is! I don’t know what I’d do without Meredith? Wait, who were we talking about again?”
CBS broke the story to select media members in an urgent, last-minute press conference Wednesday. Upon arriving at the podium, CBS media spokesperson Craig O’Brien told reporters: “Though this may come as a shock to many of you, after five years with the network, Katie Couric has elected to end her tenure as our Evening News anchor this coming December.” Sources in attendance say that O’Brien’s statement was met with a mixed chorus of laughter and boos from reporters expecting actual news.
“She’s a cautionary tale,” Pumbleroy concluded. “When she was at Today, she was a ratings monster. But without great summer grilling recipes, Bon Jovi summer concerts in the park, and the other human touches that made her the cutest thing in news, she became just another Wolf Blitzer with boobs. That’s a quick path to the news anchor B-list.”
Now she's leaving, wait what channel does she work for?
Though Couric has not confirmed her next project, experts predict it will be over hyped.
