Woman dumps fiancé over interest in royal wedding

A Chicago woman recently broke up with her fiancé of four months on the grounds that he was “way too interested” in the upcoming royal wedding of Britain’s Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Margaret Boyers, 26, said she was initially interested in the royal wedding, if only to get ideas for her own wedding plans, but she thought it strange that her fiancé, Lance Hodges 28, seemed more focused on it than she was.

Boyers said she and her female friends have been paying attention to the royal wedding, although her fiance’s interest seemed stronger than any of them.

“At first I was cool with it. Obviously, we’re not having the big to do that they are over the pond but it was interesting because we were planning our wedding at the same time. I have to admit I’ve been a bit curious to see what her dress will be like,” Boyers said. “I started to realize that Lance was really into this stuff, way more than I was. He even wanted his bachelor party to be dinner with a Kate and William theme. What the hell is that about? I’d actually prefer it if he went to a strip club, at least that’s normal.”

Boyers said she and Hodges dated for a year before getting engaged. She initially thought her fiancé was just really into weddings, perhaps inspired by their own upcoming nuptials, yet he soon became more infatuated with the royals and less interested in their own plans.

“He wanted to get the same fricking flowers as they’re having. He’s been Googling like crazy to find out what her bridesmaids will be wearing. What sort of guy cares about that? I don’t even care about that,” Boyers said. “Every damn night it was William this and Kate that. He’s been so obsessed we haven’t even fooled around in months.”

The last straw came when Boyers sent her fiancé to the store and he bought every magazine with a picture of Kate and William on the cover.

“It’s bad enough the media has been going nuts over this crap, like when the network news spent 10 minutes on what kind of cake they’re going to have, but this stuff ends at my doorstep here and now,” Boyers said. “He can keep his damn ring, I’m done with him.”

While Hodges declined comment his intended best man, Ben Nestwood of Chicago, said he’s been helping Hodges cope with the break up by working out, watching reruns of “Will & Grace” and hitting local nightspots such as the Manhole, Jackhammer and the Lucky Horseshoe.
