Another random homicide has been confirmed somewhere in the city of Chicago or the greater Chicago metropolitan area, police said Monday morning.
Due to the high frequency of homicides in the city, officials are still “pretty much in the dark when it comes to exact details in this case.”
The homicide, which might have involved a shooting, a stabbing, or maybe even a strangulation, took place sometime between the hours of 9PM Sunday and 6AM Monday. In all likelihood, this homicide occurred somewhere in one of the South Side or West Side neighborhoods, probably in a vacant lot or a dark alley, or maybe even right out in plain view on some street corner.
The victim–either a man, a woman, or a child–was most likely black or Hispanic, but could have easily been just a regular white guy as well. S/he probably died at the scene of the crime, but also might have been rushed to some random nearby hospital, in which case s/he would have later died from blood loss or internal injuries.
Local police arrived at the scene maybe an hour or two after the incident and were able to confirm the death as a homicide, but they could neither determine a motive for the crime nor find anything that might lead to the identification of a suspect.
Details are still incomplete, but detectives are thoroughly investigating the homicide, and most of them sort of think that this killing may have possibly been gang-related.
According to The Daily Blank’s analysis of preliminary police reports, this most recent murder brings the homicide count in Chicago for this month to a grand total of anywhere between 30 and 80 homicides, which could be slightly higher or lower than totals recorded for the same period in 2008.
“We are as grieved and upset by the news of today’s homicide as we are by any of the other homicides filling up our newspaper headlines, which we have sort of come to expect on a daily basis now,” said Chicago Police Superintendent Jody Weis in a phone interview.
No other details were available at the time of this article. Due to the fact that most people blur all homicides together into one “Oh look, more people are dying” category, any further development of this random homicide will not be reported.
